Consultation for Therapists

Mastery isn’t a destination; it’s a relationship with growth.

What Consultation Are You Looking For?

Whether you are new, experienced and needing help with a difficult case, or seeking EMDR-specific consultation, I can help you take your therapeutic skill set to the next level. Many people are good at a chosen profession, but knowledge transfer is a unique skill unto itself. I have worked as a professor at university and prior to my becoming a therapist, I worked for many years as a corporate trainer, instructional designer, and training evaluator. In addition to my private practice, I regularly facilitate at therapist trainings in AEDP, EFT, and EMDR. I stay current on the latest protocols and literature in these and other areas so you get the most current, evidence-based information.

New Therapists

Are you newly-licensed and needing to broaden the basic skills with someone who makes consultation fun and interesting? I specialize in consultation for new therapists who are working on putting what they learned into practical application. I help you with:

  • the situations that don't get taught in school

  • case conceptualization

  • refreshers on basic concepts

  • self-of-therapist work, counter-transference

  • pacing and moment-to-moment tracking

  • paying attention to response-to-intervention

  • preventing burnout

  • improving diagnostic clarity

  • encouraging self-care strategies

  • recognizing signals that a medication evaluation or re-evaluation may be appropriate

  • running therapy groups

  • maintaining professional boundaries

  • when to seek legal consultation

  • professional development

    • continued learning beyond formal training

    • staying aligned with best practices

    • strengthening confidence in clinical judgment

EMDR Consultation

I am an EMDRIA-Approved Consultant. Your consultation hours with me will count toward the 10 required hours to complete the Basic Training with the EMDR Institute or the Humanitarian Assistance Program (HAP)/Trauma Recovery. I offer both individual and group consultation. I typically offer groups in blocks of six 1-hr groups meeting about every 3-4 weeks on dates/times that are agreed upon by all in advance. I cap my groups to no more than four consultees so that everyone gets plenty of individual time. My groups are closed, meaning you mostly meet with the same consultees each group. This offers several benefits:

  • group cohesiveness and safety

  • a sense of community

  • learning from each other's follow-ups

  • predictability

I also provide individual consultation to therapists seeking to become EMDR Certified. The current requirements include a minimum of 20 hours of consultation, along with demonstrating competency in each of the eight phases, and other requirements that can be found at www.emdria.org.

Case Consultation

Are you a seasoned therapist looking for help with a complex case? It can un-do a lot of alone-ness to have another set of eyes and ears on a case in order to bring a different perspective. I offer individual consultation for cases of:

  • being “too close” to a case. Consultation provides:

    • fresh clinical insight

    • differential diagnosis input

    • reduction in blind spots and cognitive bias

  • complicated grief

  • disorders co-occurring with substance use disorder

  • avoidance of emotions/affect phobia

  • self-of-therapist work as it affects the therapy

  • "stuck points"

  • exploring alternative theoretical approaches

Most professional ethics codes (like those from the American Psychological Association and the American Counseling Association) explicitly encourage consultation when needed to ensure competent care. Sometimes we all get myopic about cases, and our clients deserve not only our expertise, but the expertise from consultants who work in areas we may not often see in our practice. Consultation can also keep us current on the latest updates to therapeutic methods or approaches based on more recent research than when we first learned a method.

Therapy can be emotionally demanding. Consultation:

  • provides peer support

  • normalizes challenges

  • decreases professional isolation

  • helps prevent compassion fatigue and cope with vicarious trauma

I provide a collaborative, non-judgmental space where you can think freely, explore challenges, and expand your clinical confidence. My style is encouraging, direct, humorous at times, and supportive. Contact me to schedule your first consultation.

Hands in Support

Mastery is a Moving Target

When you reach one level, you see a higher one. The deeper your knowledge becomes, the more you recognize what you don’t know. This is intellectual humility — and it’s common among high performers. They’re aware that:

  • Skill has layers.

  • Context changes performance.

  • Refinement is always available.

The novice thinks they’ve arrived. The master sees the horizon move.

Virtual options are available from anywhere. In-person consultation is available in the Denver, Colorado area. â€‹Contact me to schedule a consultation or a free 15-minute introductory call.

Kelly Logan Walker, LISW, Cincinnati, OH

Camille is an encouraging and naturally therapeutic consultant to work with. She offers professional guidance with a confidence and grace that is very soothing. Camille connects the technical dots of EMDR while seamlessly acknowledging and affirming the human behind the modality."

Mary King, LCSW, Reno, NV

"I have had a great experience meeting with Camille for EMDR consultation. She is straightforward, knowledgeable and explains things clearly. She is quick to respond to messages and very personable as well. I look forward for continuing to grow my competency with EMDR working with Camille."

Allison Huynh, AMFT, Tustin, CA

"Camille's warmth, expertise, and passion for equipping mental health professionals are evident in every consultation session. She has a gift for helping clinicians integrate their preferred modalities with EMDR while also maintaining fidelity to the EMDR model. She has helped me get "unstuck" with many EMDR and OCD clients, and she is at the top of my list for consultants."
